First and foremost, asshats you belong to the DEMOCRAT party, not the DEMOCRATIC party.
You see we aren't even a true democracy, one man equals one vote. We are a Democratic Republic. One in which we elect people to speak for us and which in the end requires less actual vote counting, but trust that you will represent our values not your own.
Which brings me to the point of this post. There are democrats which realize the current Health Care Plan which was just passed is not the answer. Then there are Liberal progressive socialist fools that feel what is mine is also theirs, so I should pay for their health care or contribute in such a way as to allow them to pay less. Let Capitalism and the free market system solve the problem. Competition drives the prices down.
Why do 60 year old women have to carry prenatal care within their health insurance? It is ridiculous, by that logic: I own boat, so I carry boat insurance, therefore you should also carry boat insurance so that I may afford mine. People (LIBERALS) it is not that the Health Care system is not broken, it is the Health Care INSURANCE system that needs tweaking. People without insurance receive emergency services and some services which are not emergencies. The skyrocketing prices are a result of not having interstate commerce, and being forced to carry insurance that doesn't apply to each individual.
So before anyone complains about people saying we don't need reform, listen to what we are saying. Your very own closed mind has prevented you, the accepting scholars of diversity (unless it conflicts with your liberal progressive beliefs) from seeing the truth. YES we need reform of the Insurance regulations mandated by the states. Allow private companies through market competition to present insurance plans according to need.
Send the illegals (who are already breaking the law by being here) back to Mexico. Let them protest their own government, not mine.
You see the Health care system is broken, we all admit it, we have solutions. Tell Pelosi and her miscreants to stop their socialist agenda and really search for a way with Bi-Partisan input. You all helped to elect the witch. It can be done, but not the way they just shoved through the House.

Winter Olympics

The Winter Olympics have come and gone in my backyard. Well a few hours North and in another country. It seems though, that aside from Hockey and Figure Skating the Winter Olympics are no more that an Extreme Sport Expo. I am biased of course, in that I was a track star, and part of my best memories from those days was the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles. My track coach was involved as a pole vault judge, which afforded him access to the stars of the day. My Alma Mater, Cactus High School, has his picture with Carl Lewis in their display case. I believe there is also a hurdle cross bar with almost all of the 1984 Track Olympians signatures on it.
So another Winter Olympics has passed, as I hope this current winter will do. No fanfare necessary, just go away with your cold weather stunts and bad snow landings. Go away Winter Olympics with Canada winning the Gold once again in Hockey. Go away Winter Olympics with your Curling (how is that a sport?).
Go away Winter Olympics of which the opening and closing ceremonies are critiqued more than the participant events. Go away Winter Olympics that without Nancy and former Clackamas resident Tanya there are no real reasons to follow it.....

I am posting this particular link, to this particular News Group to prove a point. I don't typically read their content.

Recently Portland Police were called out to an apartment by the father of a woman, who was concerned. You see, her boyfriend's brother had passed away earlier in the day, due to an ongoing heart condition. The boyfriend was armed and distraught as per the 911 tapes. Police arrived, the woman and her children were in the apartment with the armed man. He finally released the woman and children, (I don't believe it was a true hostage situation). Two hours into the ordeal he exited the apartment, and after not complying with the officers orders he was shot with bean bag rounds and finally (within the same minute) with an AR-15 Rifle. He was left bleeding on the pavement for 20 minutes where he died. The officer with the rifle thought the suspect was going for a gun.

Now, having read my brief summary, you and I both feel bad for the deceased. We wonder what went wrong in this instance, and what we would have done had we been there as a police officer. Was there a gun? No, it was in the apartment. Did the officers know that? Doubtful.

So the story goes, a suspected armed and dangerous man, ignored police commands, and now is dead. This does border excessive force, however a grand jury found the officer to be not at fault.

Next little Gem. The suspect was Black (as Capitalized in the article linked), the officer was white. So here we have a very tragic situation turned into a major racial issue. Was it a racial issue in my description? Did you as the reader automatically assume the suspect was black and the officer was white? Apparently the mayor of Portland released a statement to the effect that everyone has racism within themselves. Really? I guess I should stop judging people on an individual basis, and start hating everybody. What an idiot.

The next step here is the Great Portland Mayor, contacted Jessie Jackson to come here and put his healing hands into this quagmire. Jessie had much to say, and all of it race baiting. I'll let you check the headlines for all of the statements made except one. He flat out called the shooting an EXECUTION. WTF!! GASOLINE ON A FIRE.

I wonder how safe this police officer and his family feel right now.

John Murtha dies after complications from gall bladder surgery

The “Haditha” Marines:

Rep. Murtha maliciously and intentionally threw a dozen Marines under the political bus, and created worldwide headlines which served to further “gin up” opposition to the war in Iraq. The Congressman held a news conference claiming a unit doing dangerous house-to-house recon in Iraq had “intentionally” murdered Iraqi civilians in November, 2005. Murtha asserted his assessment of the “facts” even though he was nowhere near Iraq and the Marines had not completed their investigation of the incident. See HERE.

Of course, it took years for 7 Marines to go to trial and all 7 of them to be found not guilty, but those legal exonerations have gone largely “uncovered” by the liberal media who are anxious to criticize the Iraq war.

Only one Marine has yet to be tried on this witch hunt begun five years ago by the late Congressman Murtha. Sgt. Frank Wuterich actually tried to sue Murtha in federal court for defamation. The suit was dismissed April of 2009 when the judge ruled the Congressman as a public official had a right to flap his mouth and say whatever, wherever he damn pleases, truth be damned. These soldiers’ names were besmirched and their lives made hell by John Murtha, who was himself a Vietnam veteran.

The comments of the family of Lance Corporal Justin Sharratt, who was one of the Marines exonerated years after Murtha’s slanderous grand-standing, are a better reason to shed tears today, not the death of Rep. Murtha:

Time magazine reported Haditha as a “massacre.” Congressman John Murtha drew worldwide attention when he appeared on national television on 17 May 2006 and branded these Marines “cold blooded murderers.” In this and subsequent television appearances, Mr. Murtha denied these Marines the rights afforded them by the United States Constitution. Mr. Murtha played judge and jury before an investigation was ever completed on the events of Haditha.

After an extensive investigation and judicial process, six Marines were exonerated of any wrongdoing in Haditha. One Marine officer had his charges dropped and his case is now in the appeals stage. One enlisted Marine is currently awaiting his day in court. My son, Lance Corporal Justin Sharratt, was exonerated of three counts of unpremeditated murder and was declared INNOCENT of all charges…Our family has asked the Congress of the United States to investigate the actions of Mr. John Murtha regarding his conduct in the Haditha affair. I blog because I am a writer and I'm always looking to finesse my craft...not to mention, I find writing quite intellectually stimulating. I once read that writers are unique among creative types because writers alone believe that the world really needs to hear what they have to say. Painters, sculptors, poets and other artists on the other hand do not suffer this illusion. I don't know if there's any truth to this, but I do know that I enjoy expressing myself through written words. It's so natural to me -- like breathing and blinking."

I found this epiphany on a random blog. You ever blog search just by hitting the "next blog" tab at the top of the blogger page? There are some interesting finds.

In response to what this person wrote, I find it relaxing in a this is what I have to say and no one can interrupt me sort of way. The one thing I have always hated is watching the tv pundits and media types trying to yell over each other because their thought is more important. Frankly, I think both sides have a point, someone is wrong, but it is ALWAYS the OTHER person. So this MY forum. If you agree, great. If you disagree, you have that right, but you won't be yelling over my written word as it is a pointless endeavor. Entertaining to watch, but pointless nonetheless.

As to writing and perfecting my craft, not really. There was a time many years back, when reading, writing,and spelling was where I excelled. I spent most of my free time reading, and actually had some poetry written in a journal. (Someone find it please it could be worth millions now, and I could use the money.) What tuned me out was the wonderful Advanced English Courses in High School. Literary works I found interesting pertaining to the basic fundamentals of composing a story. You know the basic stuff our kids are now doing in the 3rd grade. Instead we spent entire semesters breaking down sentences and paragraphs, with circling this, underlining that, drawing connectors to other words within, addressing punctuation, ugh. No one could even read the original passage when we were done. When we finally got to Hamlet, Shakespeare, works by Robert Frost etc, I had lost interest. I honestly had more fun in 8th grade English. We covered "12 Angry Men", and there was also a French Revolution piece I believe, it was a tv short series in the 80's, "The Tale of Two Cities" by Charles Dickens. Conducting brief skits, then analyzing the characters thoughts and positions portrayed by the author is what I enjoyed.

So when you ask why I blog, think about the root of reading and writing... Communication. Plain and simple. Close friends and family never wonder what Rob thinks, he is going to tell you. Bad habit I know, but with this release you still know what I think, without it being intrusive to the fickle thought processes of others. Like watching tv, change the channel.

Well true to form the layoffs have begun. Not with my shop but there are small businesses all over Oregon shutting down and moving out. There is a farm feed company that grossed $3.2 million, after product, employees and all other financial responsibilities were paid out, they netted $300,000 last year in a bad economy. Their tax burden is $100,000. Sure, big money with a $200,000 profit. Where are they going to expand? What if they needed to keep some cash in reserves for future sale item purchases in an economy where banks aren't lending? They just let 5 people go to lessen the blow to their bottom line. That is 5 people who will not be paying income taxes. That is 5 people who may have to get gov't assistance to survive.

Sadly my own home is surrounded by liberal retards. These are bright intelligent college educated people, but I am almost 100% positive they voted for this shit, even as they have been losing work days. Oh, its for the kids... Really? Check the numbers. Last I understood, here in Oregon it takes $10k a year to educate each child in Oregon. With the supposed 40 kids in a classroom (numbers from the ads, real numbers are 25/class) that equals $400k a year minus the teachers $100k (Salary and benefits). What are they doing with the other $300k per classroom? Unbelievable!!
The final straw came this morning when one of the public employee spokespersons said that this new $750 million tax is just to stop the bleeding, but is not the cure....
We have crossed over the line. The public employees outnumber the private sector and we will go further and further in debt trying to fund their raises and benefits they vote in for themselves.
For years Oregon has been known for not having a sales tax. Not anymore. Companies are going to start charging more to cover their losses and stay in the black. Ultimately a sales tax. Gov't taxes the gross, business raises prices to protect themselves which pays their tax. See, Sales Tax. Salem knew exactly what they were doing...
Damn I wish I could sell my house, I would be out of here tomorrow. Problem is I will have to stay and weather this storm, as no one is buying houses, they are all laid off.

Holy Crap!!
In the wonderful thought process of the developers of our neighborhood, we have narrow streets. They said it was for the neo-traditional look. I cry Bullshit!!! It was so they could build more homes in a confined area.
To give a brief description, our streets are only wide enough to allow parking on one side only. When we moved in to this brand new neighborhood we were allowed to vote as to which side of the street to make "no parking". The lot across from me is a side yard, so to keep people from parking in front of my yard, we,(neighbors and I) elected to make the parking strip across the street. Twelve years later, with all new neighbors, except one, parking has become an issue.
It seems the idiots at the end of the street which is a completely different parking situation have made it their mission to park DIRECTLY behind MY driveway. These are generally high school kids and their friends who are visiting. One by one I have asked them as I see them, not to park behind my driveway. You see, even though this is "Green" Oregon, I own a full size 4x4 extended cab truck (the only one on my street). To back my truck out with a car parked across the street requires the equivalent of a 3-point turn around. Truth is I don't want to accidentally hit their vehicles. So if we avoid causing the situation in the first place, we can avoid the frustration of losing our vehicles to the body shop.
Tonight I am taking out my garbage for tomorrows pick up. Lo and behold, on an otherwise empty neighborhood block there is a little white truck parked where? Behind my fricken driveway!!!!!!
For the first time I went to the offenders house and asked him to move it. First he said "oh I forgot", then before getting in his truck he says no one has told him before. We'll see if he "forgets" again, little bastard.
Hey, I do admit I do not own the street, and will succumb to the poor parking habits of others when all other options have been exhausted. However tonight was blatant, as he had to reverse his truck to park in front of my work van.
Next visit is to his parents, after that things will get nasty!!

When did we lose our nuts?

In a squirrels sense.
You see squirrels work hard planning and storing for their survival. They go from tree to tree locating their sustenance, utilizing their natural resources to benefit their survival.
We on the other hand have made it illegal to take nuts from this tree or that tree. When we do find legal nuts, we are taxed on our storage facility, which negates the efforts of 3 full nut finding days. So in our wisdom we decide to manufacture nuts by planting more legal trees. The zoning laws prevent the trees from growing to their full nut producing height, as it may obstruct the view of the spotted owl. So in an effort to survive, the nut tree barons relocate to the yard next door where there are less stringent rules, with more squirrels who will work for fewer nuts. These nuts are then shipped back to us, but since gov't has to get a piece they put a tariff on the nuts from next door which makes trade back and forth uneven. Of course there are a few squirrels that refuse to buy from next door due to pride in their homegrown nuts.

Unfortunately the neighbor's nuts are everywhere at a reasonable price, so we must buy them to survive. Our trees do not produce enough nuts anymore, and the few squirrels working hard to preserve their nuts have to share with the squirrels who haven't worked quite as hard. Not to mention the squirrels that made it across the street without getting run over. They collect nuts from the ground because our squirrels are too proud. These nuts on the ground are still good, just a little over ripe, but are still transported back across the street where there are fewer nut trees for the squirrels there.
After years of trade regulations, and allowing lazy squirrels to purchase trees they didn't work for, the Fox shows up. He HOPES he can CHANGE the effects of years of nut hording. He orders more nuts to be given to the nut distributors, even thou these nuts do not exist. We find that there aren't any more trees to produce nuts in our yard so we manufacture synthetic nuts which we trade to our neighbors knowing they are worth nothing. The Fox views this as good policy hoping the regular hard working squirrels don't recognize what he has done.
Soon we can not survive without nuts from the Fox. We have to stand in lines to receive our ration of nuts, but only get 1/4 of the nut we worked for, while other squirrels receive 1/2 a nut for doing nothing. Meanwhile the fox is collecting squirrels that have worked hard and who are aware of his game. He takes them home to eat, to keep them from opening the eyes of the other squirrels.

So when did we lose our nuts?

We lost our nuts when we quit being self reliant, and started believing the government should be responsible for our well being. We lost our nuts when we let special interest groups slow down industry in an effort to save a planet which is not under attack. We lost our nuts when we tied our own hands in industry while other nations picked up where we left off.
We lost our nuts when we allowed individuals decide what is best for the rest of us without questioning their motives. We lost our nuts when gov't became the #1 employer, so now we pay for their retirement packages that exceed their working wages. We lost our nuts when we allowed them to vote themselves into this prosperity on our dollars.

Let's get the Fox out of our yard, fertilize our trees and put squirrels back to work collecting the nuts that belong to us.

It seems every Christmas the progressive Left find something new to complain about. Past items include Christmas Trees in Government buildings, store greeters are to say Happy Holidays instead of Merry Christmas and schools now have "Holiday" programs.
The latest one to kick up in the wind is boycotting the Salvation Army. It seems the Salvation Army (a Conservative Christian Church Organization) does not approve of homosexuality. They utilized their right to free speech, freedom of the press, and freedom of religion to make it clear that the Church does not look favorably toward the gay and lesbian belief system. Surprise Surprise Surprise Gomers. The church typically follows what is written in their Holy Bible, with strict reference to homosexual behavior. Ungodly churches who claim to be Christians are allowing homosexual unions, but that doesn't make it right. So basically the GLBT groups are boycotting the bell ringers as is their right, and then taking credit for the lack of donations this year. Wonderful, their leader is in the White House, shows where we are headed when the voting public can't see donations are down because of a bad economy.
I do have links to the aforementioned diatribe written by a GLBT sympathizer, but frankly I find it as one sided as what I have written. You see the "Can't we all get along" Diversity crowd has one agenda and it is theirs. As long as we all bow down to acceptance of their foulness we can all get along. In light of Diversity, let us approve gay marriage, put gay men on one island and gay women on another island. First island to reproduce will get to come home for a genital recheck....
By the way I don't hate gay people, I disapprove of their actions and the way they are trying to make a lifestyle choice a mainstream acceptable behavior to young people.

Getting back in gear

It seems my posting has slowed way down recently, and I can only blame Facebook. If you aren't from Arizona, I don't know you. Really. Why would I include people I see day to day on my Facebook list? For me it is really great to reconnect with people I have known since 2nd grade, but haven't talked to in 22 years.
Aside from all of that. We have finished Tyler's football season where he was awarded "Most Improved Linebacker". Which is to say he realized he wasn't getting out of practice for every little booboo and started hitting. He finally came home with a battle bruise that luckily didn't turn into a blood clot, but looked like it had to have hurt when he earned it. This was a proud moment for him, and he was happy to show off his newest and best battle wound. LOL, he is getting tougher as each year passes.

Clackamas High school made it into the second round of 6A play-off Football before losing to Centennial in a mud bog on Centennial's home field.Clackamas Touchdown Club I try to be involved as much as possible with our local youth programs as it keeps me anchored to what is great in life growing up.
As an example I bring up my Alma Mater, Cactus High School. Without checking my yearbooks, I believe Coach Larry Fetkenheir started as Head Coach at Cactus in 1984. Here we are 25 years later with him leading the Cobras to State again. I really should research how many times the Cobras have been in the playoffs, and gone to State. I do recall The Cobras under Coach Fetkenheir haven't missed a playoff yet, or had a losing season. I will check into this to be sure though.

I remember as a Senior he took our Football team to State where we lost to Gilbert, but we were there. No I wasn't a football player, which I regret in some respects, (I ran cross country, very well too I might add... mid 15 minute to low 16's, 3 mile races and 4:40- 4:50 mile times in track.)
Nostalgia is fun, and I encourage everyone to seek it out and enjoy it. While I hung with the popular crowd, I wasn't THE popular guy, I was ME, and friends with a lot of people who were real and sincere. We always knew where to go when things were happening, and when the nights were slow we invented shit to do.

Recent events indicate David Letterman is a major scumbag (he handled it smartly, but is still a scumbag for cheating on his "wife") which leaves Sarah Palin plenty of ammunition if she were to sink to that libtard's level.

The Messiah couldn't persuade the Olympic Committee to hail Chicago for the next available Olympiad, not surprising since his health care plan is failing miserably, and even those in congress who like it, can't read it word for word and understand what it means, who and what it covers, and what it will cost.

The Messiah is handling foreign relations in perfect accord with his nemesis Jimmy Carter, keep your guns and ammo close by, we may need it. DELTA FORCE WHERE ARE YOU!!???

John McCain is looking for a more center minded Republican Party for the next election. Does the old bastard realize that is exactly why HE lost the last Presidential election? So for a couple of weeks there was a lot of noise about the Chosen One speaking to our kids in school via a speech over the tv. I for one did not support the idea then, and now after the speech find it to be a bunch of crap. Yes fecal matter, horse shit, cow dung, whatever. As anyone with any intelligence knows, he heard the outcry and changed his speech. The funny thing is his speech sounded like a Conservative Republican, and the Dems won't admit it. "BE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOURSELF, IT IS UP TO THE INDIVIDUAL TO TRY HARD TO SUCCEED SO THEIR DREAMS MAY COME TRUE AND LEAD THEM TO A MINDLESS BRAIN-FUCKING IN THE STATE RUN UNIVERSITY OF CHOICE, BLAH BLAH BLAH". Meanwhile during his campaign the anointed one was the one to give us what we need, no-one shall want again. "If Obama gets elected I won't have to worry about my rent, or car payment or groceries it will be given to my fat lazy ass".
It all boils down to one thing. The Rock Star status of the Pontiff must be maintained so that simply by name recognition his approval rating goes up, and he can be elected again. (looking ahead).
In reality kids K-6 should know of the President, but they do not need to be a tool of the office of President regardless of party affiliation. Grades 7-10 should be up on National and world events, complete with forming their own judgement without Acorn-holio inviting himself into their lives. Grades 11-12 should be aware and have an unbiased instruction into gov't so that when they turn 18 they can make a real choice without the "Stockholm Syndrome" coming into play.

To put it short and sweet, libtards should keep their liberal agenda out of schools, and the conservative right will pray that we don't have to shoot you.

Time to play catch-up

It has been awhile since I updated with life in general, so here is my best attempt to catch up.

Baseball season ended with Football Camps starting right up for Tyler. He wanted to play safety and wide receiver, both of which are do nothing positions for his age group. He got drafted and the head coach has him playing Nose Tackle and Strong Side Linebacker, depending on the defensive formation. It is a far cry from Wide Receiver, but then again Tyler is not built for speed. He earned his position by being aggressive and hitting hard, likely one of the top 5 tacklers on his team. I also got drafted to be the lineman and defensive coordinator. Yea me, I wanted to be the Safety and Wide receiver coach. Has anyone around here seen pictures of me when I played football? I think Travis weighs more than I did. Regardless the "big guy" is now learning and coaching strategies for the "big kids".

Travis has started his Fall baseball league. It is not as serious as the spring/summer league, mainly just for practice. He has been wearing a support boot on his foot, he sprained his ankle playing wiffle ball during our camping trip to Lake Billy Chinook. He played the first few games with the boot on, and has just this week been allowed to take it off. His fielding was great at second, we will see if his batting improves now.

We had one final camping trip last weekend to Prineville Reservoir. I don't know if it was the place, the people, or the amount of time spent there, but it was likely the BEST camping trip ever. We went from Thursday and stayed to Monday. This helped to make the trip less stressful. We burned nearly 50 gallons of gas in the boat towing the kids around. We even got Trudy up on ski's twice. Sorry, the only pic I got was on my cell phone, very poor quality.
Labor Day is here, and in true NW fashion the weather sucks!!!!!! Guaranteed to to have crappy weather on a holiday in the NW.

BTW we do have pictures of Travis, but he won't smile. It is a cross between wearing braces and being 14 1/2. Remember that age? Waiting patiently for him to come out of his funk.

Travis- Senior National Cavs

Travis's team started slow this year. In fact I figured it was going to be a dismal season. Halfway through they picked it up, they were 2-6, and finished 10-8. Travis battled all season. He was consistent batting #2, and started at 2nd throughout the season. He had his good games and bad, but I tell you what his DAD is PROUD of the effort put forth this year. I never would have believed he was capable of a season this good back when he was in 5th grade.
He will be playing Fall Ball this Fall, and then his final year of baseball unless he makes the Freshman Squad.
His future plans are to go to umpire school, and become an umpire for the league if he doesn't make the High School Team.

Summer 2009 boating

Somehow we have been able to get out in the boat in between all of our baseball games.
Trudy's brother Jeff and his family came up from California and went camping at Detroit Lake with us. We fished and towed the kids around on the tubes. I even water skied for the first time since I was 15. I forgot all the different muscles it uses and suffered for it the next few days.
Portland had a pretty hot day on July 3rd so we went out on the Columbia river for a while. The water was nice early, but got real choppy toward the end of the day. We have a few more camping trips planned, and I will post more pics soon.

Clackamas Midget National Baseball 2009

Well, baseball is finally over for Tyler and I. Our team won 9 lost 2 and tied 1. We placed 8th in the county out of 45 teams. We had to play two qualifying games to reach the county championship tournament. We won our first game, but lost the second one. I went to watch the championship game today, and I truly believe on their best day my team could compete with the two teams playing.
Tyler was my number two/three pitcher depending on the rotation. He played short stop and third base. He also had the second best batting average on the team. While he is no all-star, he definitely has potential, he is very coach-able and learns quickly. While we are sad we didn't make it all the way to County and then State, the team should be very proud of themselves. I hope my players can look back at this year and remember it as the year they fell in love with baseball.
I'll coach again next year, and hopefully be as successful as we were this year.

Well here we are 5 games into a 12 game regular season. Tyler is one of my top three pitchers, and #2 in batting averages. We tied the first game of the season and have since gone on to win four straight. We have one more team in our league we haven't played. So what it comes down to is with two more wins with 7 games left(all teams play twice) we will qualify for the County playoffs in July. A .500 season gets an automatic seeding, but if we beat every team twice we could win our division and have a #1 seed.
Regardless, I bought all the players pizza tonight after the game. Every game I choose a top player to receive an award, usually candy. Tonight we had at least 4 players excelling, so I treated the whole team to pizza. These kids have really improved and I hope they understand what they have accomplished thus far.

Never mind we had the longest weekend of baseball. Forget about Travis having a batting average of .625, and Tyler facing 10 batters and striking out 8. Both boys were in separate tournaments this weekend. I can't comment on Travis's play as I was coaching Tyler's team across town.
Back to the title. My team is playing defense, there are two outs with a runner on 2nd in the top of the 3rd inning. On the opposite field they have an announcers booth which is playing music between innings. I look at our game, the pitcher is in the wind-up, Queen is playing on the loudspeaker. The solo guitar riff between "We will Rock You" and "We are the Champions" is blaring. The runner at 2nd and at least half of my team are playing Guitar Hero Air Guitar in the middle of a pitch to the batter!
These are 3rd and 4th graders who LOVE OUR MUSIC. There was no way I could be mad at the team for not being ready for the ball. A few parents and I had a chuckle about the situation and moved on. It is a pretty sad situation when our kids are stealing our music CD's and tapes, even worse when they are Jammin the air guitar in the middle of a baseball game to said music.

As a normal person I would assume that this day is for celebrating what the earth has given us. Pretty arrogant huh, the thought that the earth is actually giving us something, with nothing in return. Don't worry Al Gore is paying back with carbon credits. Which means he can be the least green, but if he pays enough it is ok.

To note are a few facts concerning earth, our existence and our blame for its demise.
First note is a fact that the level of CO2 in the atmosphere has never officially been measured to a determination of a cause of ozone depletion resulting in direct rays from the sun over-heating the earths surface. Sorry about the long lay-off. As my previous post indicated, baseball season has begun. Travis' team has been hard at work getting back into spring form. He was hoping to play 2nd base, but will be starting at left field and backing up at 2nd base. The matrix of players just worked out for that result. He will be batting early in the line-up which is good and will provide him more opportunities to score.
Tyler's team of which I am head coach is a full new experience. Just when I think I have a position for each kid, another kid shows major improvement to earn that spot.

Tyler, while a decent pitcher, a great fielder and thrower from short-stop, doesn't seem to remember his assignments. A true case of talent without interest. He bats well on average, but expects to hit home runs every time. As anyone knows who played ball as a kid, this means he is dipping his shoulder, and releasing his follow-through to one hand, expecting contact and the long ball. I can only hope my assistant coach can rescue him, because he won't listen to "dad".

Baseball season aside, I am patiently watching for our democratic republic to fall fully into the lap of a socialist republic. The Obamination has done exactly as I expected so far. Of course the smug progressive libs see no wrong in Trillions of dollars of debt accrued lately, of which our kids, and their kids will be paying down. Great income tax cut Barry, but I can see the energy taxes rising. Where's the benefit? Hell, just bow down to another Muslim, Barry, then tell everyone else how bad America is except you. Fricken Traitor, you ought to be hanged. Back off Libs, he should be hanged for treason, not because he is black, or half-n-half, or whatever he is. Funny thing is I don't think anyone in Washington has a clue right now. When is anyone in Washington going to stand up and publicly denounce the destruction of our country? This isn't a Republican/Democrat issue. It is our preservation as a country. Stop the progress towards a one world gov't. Pat Robertson wrote about it in 1992. Yes, it is almost spring break and the 2009 baseball tryouts are complete. I was at the high school from 11:30 this morning, until 6:00pm. Then I drafted my team from 7pm until 8:30. I had 4 returning players from last year. I kept two, sent one back down to transitional, and let one go up a level. Soooo, I have Tyler, then my assistant coaches kid, a returning catcher which is a girl, and one overconfident dad, er prospective pitcher.
I evaluated only third graders today expecting all the 4th graders to be taken, Lo and behold there were multiple 3rd graders taken at the higher level, leaving 15 extra 4th graders to play down a level. I picked my kids, four, 4th graders without knowing anything about them.
Quite honestly, next year I will step down as head coach, as Tyler has the ability to play with the top kids of his age level. There are 12 players at the top level, and Tyler is at about 6 or 7. Me being a head coach is only holding him back as he was as good or better than a kid I let go to the next level tonight.

Travis did well with his tryouts and I expect he will get the same coach he had last year, which is a good thing.

At this point we are kissing summer goodbye, until we get over halfway through our season. If we win half our games we are in the playoffs starting the second week of July. Which means our camping reservations are for not. We wish well for the kids, but want some summertime camping relief.

Sure, a few of you wonder why I need the multiple types of guns I own. Think about it. I don't know he is coming. I find out at about 2am, surprise on his part. I hear him come in and have multiple choices towards his demise, surprise on my part. Plain and simple, a responsible gun owner will not have just one option of home defense. An intruder will not know his folly until it is too late. Put criminals out of business, by creating an unsafe working environment.

I post this in an honest attempt to get a feel of the voting populous. Really those that actually take the time to read some of my rants not pertaining to family happenings.

We are in a financial crisis, the average American is reluctant to spend, banks are hesitant to loan. The moral climate of our nation in my opinion is in jeopardy.

Now all this being said. Did the citizens of our country vote for Obama based on social values, economic values, or just pure hatred of Bush?
Really, what is the best policies concerning economics? More taxes, more government, more people relying on government? As far as economics I have always stood my ground on what I earn is mine, and giving to fringe groups through taxes is wrong. If they need the money, gain the attention of those interested and raise it, but don't have it taken from us.
Do social issues of gay marriage, and abortion trump the right economic plan? It really seems today that it does. Obviously people hated Bush for the Iraq war and voted Obama in for it. Have any of these people ever served? Do they really know what is happening over in Iraq?
I really am curious as to these answers.
I have a very plain belief system.
Financially, more government revenue is generated through higher employment and lower taxes.
Socially, abortion is an individual decision, but I would be against it.
Marriage is a Holy union between a man and woman. Government only got involved as a means to attain money from the process, and provide documentation for tax purposes.
If gays wish to have the same legal rights, grant them, ie justice of the peace, just like a man and woman without religeon. They will then be partners. It is their infraction into religeon that is not tolerated. We can love them, but do not have to accept their ways.

Fannie Mae Eases Credit To Aid Mortgage Lending

By STEVEN A. HOLMES

In a move that could help increase home ownership rates among minorities and low-income consumers, the Fannie Mae Corporation is easing the credit requirements on loans that it will purchase from banks and other lenders.

The action, which will begin as a pilot program involving 24 banks in 15 markets -- including the New York metropolitan region -- will encourage those banks to extend home mortgages to individuals whose credit is generally not good enough to qualify for conventional loans. Fannie Mae officials say they hope to make it a nationwide program by next spring.

Fannie Mae, the nation's biggest underwriter of home mortgages, has been under increasing pressure from the Clinton Administration to expand mortgage loans among low and moderate income people and felt pressure from stock holders to maintain its phenomenal growth in profits.

In addition, banks, thrift institutions and mortgage companies have been pressing Fannie Mae to help them make more loans to so-called sub prime borrowers. These borrowers whose incomes, credit ratings and savings are not good enough to qualify for conventional loans, can only get loans from finance companies that charge much higher interest rates -- anywhere from three to four percentage points higher than conventional loans.

''Fannie Mae has expanded home ownership for millions of families in the 1990's by reducing down payment requirements,'' said Franklin D. Raines, Fannie Mae's chairman and chief executive officer. ''Yet there remain too many borrowers whose credit is just a notch below what our underwriting has required who have been relegated to paying significantly higher mortgage rates in the so-called sub prime market.''

Demographic information on these borrowers is sketchy. But at least one study indicates that 18 percent of the loans in the sub prime market went to black borrowers, compared to 5 per cent of loans in the conventional loan market.

In moving, even tentatively, into this new area of lending, Fannie Mae is taking on significantly more risk, which may not pose any difficulties during flush economic times. But the government-subsidized corporation may run into trouble in an economic downturn, prompting a government rescue similar to that of the savings and loan industry in the 1980's.

''From the perspective of many people, including me, this is another thrift industry growing up around us,'' said Peter Wallison a resident fellow at the American Enterprise Institute. ''If they fail, the government will have to step up and bail them out the way it stepped up and bailed out the thrift industry.''

Under Fannie Mae's pilot program, consumers who qualify can secure a mortgage with an interest rate one percentage point above that of a conventional, 30-year fixed rate mortgage of less than $240,000 -- a rate that currently averages about 7.76 per cent. If the borrower makes his or her monthly payments on time for two years, the one percentage point premium is dropped.

Fannie Mae, the nation's biggest underwriter of home mortgages, does not lend money directly to consumers. Instead, it purchases loans that banks make on what is called the secondary market. By expanding the type of loans that it will buy, Fannie Mae is hoping to spur banks to make more loans to people with less-than-stellar credit ratings.

Fannie Mae officials stress that the new mortgages will be extended to all potential borrowers who can qualify for a mortgage. But they add that the move is intended in part to increase the number of minority and low income home owners who tend to have worse credit ratings than non-Hispanic whites.

Home ownership has, in fact, exploded among minorities during the economic boom of the 1990's. The number of mortgages extended to Hispanic applicants jumped by 87.2 per cent from 1993 to 1998, according to Harvard University's Joint Center for Housing Studies. During that same period the number of African Americans who got mortgages to buy a home increased by 71.9 per cent and the number of Asian Americans by 46.3 per cent.

In contrast, the number of non-Hispanic whites who received loans for homes increased by 31.2 per cent.

Despite these gains, home ownership rates for minorities continue to lag behind non-Hispanic whites, in part because blacks and Hispanics in particular tend to have, on average, worse credit ratings.

In July, the Department of Housing and Urban Development proposed that by the year 2001, 50 percent of Fannie Mae's and Freddie Mac's portfolio be made up of loans to low and moderate-income borrowers. Last year, 44 percent of the loans Fannie Mae purchased were from these groups.

The change in policy also comes at the same time that HUD is investigating allegations of racial discrimination in the automated underwriting systems used by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to determine the credit-worthiness of credit applicants.

In addition to communicating with the local Air Traffic Control facility, all aircraft in the Persian Gulf AOR are required to give the Iranian Air Defense Radar (military) a ten minute 'heads up' if they will be transiting Iranian airspace..
This is a common procedure for commercial aircraft and involves giving them your call sign, transponder code, type aircraft, and points of origin and destination.
Overheard was this conversation on the VHF Guard (emergency) frequency 121.5 MHz while flying from Europe to Dubai . It's too good not to pass along.

The conversation went something like this...
" Iranian Air Defense Radar: 'Unknown aircraft you are in Iranian airspace Identify yourself.'
Aircraft: 'This is a United States aircraft. I am in Iraqi airspace.'
Air Defense Radar: 'You are in Iranian airspace. If you do not depart our airspace we will launch interceptor aircraft!'
Aircraft: 'This is a United States Marine Corps FA-18 fighter, Send 'em up, I'll wait!'
Air Defense Radar: (no response ... total silence)

Sorry I don't have an education resulting from some professor marking his little grade book that I stayed within his beliefs in my final paper resulting in an "A". I have too much dignity to receive a grade for not having a thought of my own. I did attend the school of hard knocks starting at about age 15. I didn't have a silver spoon stuck up my ass, but if I did I can guarantee my GPA would be in the top 2% of my graduating class. Frankly I can make as much or more money without a college degree as most people living in my neighborhood.
So libs, next time you question the education of others keep in mind that you could have saved $50k on a piece of paper with $5 in late charges at the local library. While we are pointing out Democrat and Republican differences, we can bring up the Oregon un-employment rate. Right at double digits isn't it?

It has always been the entrepreneur spirit that created jobs. This is easiest with gov't out of the way. Ask the Oregon legislature how many quality companies have left town taking the jobs with them due to the taxes levied upon them.
In the plan Obama is talking about, the government will create spending towards projects which will employ a group of people for a short while. When these projects are complete, the jobs will be gone and we will all owe even more. Where is this money coming from in the first place? It is either being printed out of thin air (hello hyper-inflation), or we are borrowing from a country that in reality isn't our friend. China would love to see the US Government bankrupt itself and that is where we are headed.

They say elephants always remember.

Animals are incredible creatures.

In 1986, Peter Davies was on holiday in Kenya after graduating from Northwestern University .

On a hike through the bush, he came across a young bull elephant standing with one leg raised in the air.

The elephant seemed distressed, so Peter approached it very carefully.

He got down on one knee, inspected the elephants foot, and found a large piece of wood deeply embedded in it.

As carefully and as gently as he could, Peter worked the wood out with his knife,
after which the elephant gingerly put down its foot.

The elephant turned to face the man, and with a rather curious look on its face, stared at him for several tense moments.

Peter stood frozen, thinking of nothing else but being trampled.

Eventually the elephant trumpeted loudly, turned, and walked away.

Peter never forgot that elephant or the events of that day.

Twenty years later, Peter was walking through the Chicago Zoo with his teenaged son.

As they approached the elephant enclosure, one of the creatures turned and

walked over to near where Peter and his son Cameron were standing.

The large bull elephant stared at Peter, lifted its front foot off the ground, then put it down.

The elephant did that several times then trumpeted loudly, all the while staring at the man.

Remembering the encounter in 1986, Peter could not help wondering if this was the same elephant.

Peter summoned up his courage, climbed over the railing, and made his way into the enclosure.

He walked right up to the elephant and stared back in wonder.

The elephant trumpeted again, wrapped its trunk around one of Peter legs

and slammed him against the railing, killing him instantly.

Probably wasn't the same f------g elephant.

Winter boat ride

I know its late February, but I needed an excuse to take the boat out. The Chinook Salmon are starting their spring run from the ocean to spawn. I spent the entire last week getting my poles and gear ready. I located some navigation maps for the local Willamette River, and purchased my season tags.
Travis and I had the boat loaded and were off to the river yesterday.
Thankfully the ramp wasn't too busy as the authorities may have a problem with Travis driving the boat or the truck. I managed to back the truck down, get in the boat, start it up, motor off the trailer, beach it, then pull the truck and trailer off the ramp and park it. Reverse that whole process to re-load the boat. FUN.

We headed up river and tried our luck at a couple of deep holes without any hits.
Since the bite was slow, we pulled anchor and motored into downtown Portland. The water was pretty rough when we got out in the open, but the boat handled it well. I just trimmed it up a little, it got on top of the rough water and flew at 45mph.
During our trip we came head to head with the "Portland Spirit" river cruise boat. It was entertaining to watch all the fishing boats yanking their anchors to clear the main channel, with the Portland Spirit blaring on its horn. "Giant Boat has right of way in deep river channel".
We made it back to our fishing spot and got settled in. I had two hits and Travis got one. It could have been a young Sturgeon, or Steelhead.
As we were watching our lines we heard what sounded like a whale blowing out. Right beside our boat was a Sea Lion. they come up river chasing down the salmon. He hung around for a bit, then disappeared. We couldn't get our cell phones out in time to get his picture.
All in all we had a good day out together, and the weather held to be halfway decent.
